6-Shogaol, an Active Constituent of Dietary Ginger, Induces Autophagy by Inhibiting the AKT/mTOR Pathway in Human Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer A549 Cells.
Summary of the abstract
This study is the first study to investigate the anticancer effect of 6-shogaol in human non-small cell lung cancer A549 cells. 6-Shogaol inhibited cell proliferation by inducing autophagic cell death, but not, predominantly, apoptosis.
We also found that 6-shogaol inhibited survival.
Taken together, these findings suggest that 6-shogaol may be a promising chemopreventive agent against human non-small cell lung cancer.

Comments:
Ginger for prevention of lung cancer
6-shogaol is one of the active ingredients found naturally occurring in ginger. It appears to limit reproduction in the cancer cells through a mechanism other than what is usually observed.
The results suggest that ginger may have some effect in preventing non-small cell cancer of the lung.
